AI can do more of the work. So where does that leave IT services?

Deloitte India plans 50,000 hires by 2030 and cut SAP cloud implementations to weeks. Why services still matter as AI takes on more delivery work.

6–8 weeks

SAP public-cloud rollout, down from 6–8 months

Times Techies reports that Deloitte's India practice plans to add about 50,000 people by 2030, with AI helping it reach businesses it previously couldn't afford to serve.

Its E-Vardhan platform, being piloted with around 100 companies, could give smaller businesses subscription-based access to services such as GST compliance and inventory management.

There are changes in delivery too. A framework developed by Deloitte in India cut SAP public-cloud implementation timelines from 6–8 months to 6–8 weeks.

Technology still needs business understanding

As Romal Shetty puts it: "Because you can't code without understanding the business."

Publicis Sapient CEO Nigel Vaz makes a related point about redesigning work. One example is an AI system that checks a retailer's devices overnight and can fix problems before staff arrive, instead of waiting for a support ticket.

Our takeaway

Start with a specific business problem and examine the whole process, including the handoffs and decisions that slow it down. Measure the result in delivery time, service quality and cost, with people accountable for reviewing AI's work.
